ABOUT LISA

A Lifetime Surrounded by Beautiful Design

Some people discover design as a career. For Lisa, it has always been a way of seeing the world.

Raised in Manhattan, she developed an early appreciation for architecture, art, fashion, and beautifully curated interiors. That perspective evolved even further after moving to Aspen in the late 1970s, where the natural beauty of the Rocky Mountains and the area's distinctive blend of mountain elegance and relaxed luxury would shape her design philosophy for decades to come.

Four Decades of Designing in Aspen

Over the next four decades, Lisa cultivated a boutique interior design practice rooted in collaboration, trust, and timeless design.

Her design philosophy was shaped by Aspen—a community known for its appreciation of architecture, natural beauty, exceptional craftsmanship, and a distinctive approach to elevated mountain living. Working with homeowners throughout the Aspen Valley, Lisa developed a refined understanding of how thoughtful interiors can balance sophistication with comfort, function, and a meaningful connection to place.

From extensive remodels to complete home furnishings, each project was approached with careful attention to detail and a belief that exceptional design should reflect the people who live there—not simply follow passing trends. Her work has always been guided by a desire to create spaces that feel personal, comfortable, and enduring.

Along the way, Lisa's work was recognized in regional publications and featured in beautifully photographed homes. Yet her greatest accomplishment has always been the lasting relationships she built with clients who returned to work with her again over the years.

Inspired by Nature

Living in the Colorado mountains influenced more than Lisa's career—it shaped the way she approaches design.

Natural materials, layered textures, warm colors, and a connection to the surrounding landscape continue to inspire her work today. Whether designing a contemporary mountain home or a classic Front Range residence, her goal remains the same: to create interiors that feel balanced, welcoming, and deeply connected to the people who live there.

A New Chapter

Today, Lisa brings that experience and perspective to Colorado's Front Range through Boulder Sundance Zen.

Drawing on decades of experience in Aspen's design-conscious residential community, she serves homeowners and property owners who value timeless design, personalized spaces, and homes that reflect the distinctive character of Colorado living.

Still intentionally boutique, Boulder Sundance Zen offers a highly personalized design experience, with every project led by Lisa herself. From full-service interior design and remodels to rental styling, property preparation, and home styling, each space is thoughtfully tailored to the client's vision, lifestyle, and goals.

Because while locations may change, great design never does.

Hear What People Are Saying About Lisa

“Every step of the project, Lisa Mills stayed true to my initial impression of her. She has exceptional interior design experience, without question. That was evident from my first meeting. What differentiated her value add was the decades of knowledge - and wisdom - of managing the process for a full scale 1500 square foot condo renovation. Her vision never faltered; her clear understanding of the project management process was always present, and she never shied from raising questions and engaging in direct communication with the construction team. Her design acumen is one of client collaboration with attention to a fluid movement from one space to the next in this condo. She had a vision for the tones and the synergy between rooms that felt cohesive and spacious, where space is a premium. The end result is elegant and timeless, and also livable.”

“I asked Lisa to help design my small kitchen in a new-build condo and she was with me throughout the entire 2+ years construction process!  Her support was invaluable from start to finish. She has a keen sense for decorating and how things needed to be placed to optimize my small space.  Lisa is the type of person that will not force her ideas upon you and I really appreciate that!  Throughout the project, she guided me through space planning, cabinetry selection, countertop choices, tile options, and all the small details that I wasn’t familiar with. Lisa respected my preferences, offered useful advice, and helped me consider the best layout for my kitchen. I am absolutely thrilled with the results and love my new kitchen! I highly recommend Boulder Sundance Zen!”

My kitchen island and counters needed updating and increased functionality. I worked with Lisa on this project. Her suggestions regarding color choices, a new sink and faucet, and a contractor to complete the work were spot on. She found the company that produced the quartz counters at a reasonable price and brought me samples to choose from. When the original cabinet holding the sink showed water damage, Lisa spent significant time researching replacement cabinets that could ship quickly and fit perfectly. I am beyond pleased with the final results. With Lisa’s experience and her eye for design, I recommend her for your home updates as well.

A few words to describe Lisa...she is a fabulous Designer!

We remodeled and redecorated my Townhouse in Aspen Glen twice over a 25-year period. The first time was a wonderful experience and the house turned out so lovely and comfortable. In fact it was photographed for Aspen Home Magazine. Lisa is fun to work with, a genius with colors and fabric, and at finding the "Just right" piece for a special spot. Also brilliant at working with a Client...you don't get Lisa's house, but you do get "Yours" with the Magic Lisa Touch.

The second go-round was absolutely mind blowing! Fantastic Art, Persian rugs, a fully redesigned Kitchen, Powder room, and totally renovated Master Bathroom with the ‘Lisa’s Special’ all glass enclosed Shower. Then there was the tile, the Vanity, the freestanding tub...what can I say ...Just wonderful.
